What the sponsor says
Please note: The Manatee Community Foundation General Scholarship Fund is no longer renewable.
I received a renewable scholarship last year, what should I do?
Please complete the full application.
I didn’t receive a renewable scholarship, what options do I have?
You can reapply in our general application cycle that opens January 1 and closes March 1 every year.
When will I know if I received a scholarship?
Please check the email you entered in the application, as that will be the one we will be communicating updates to. Please do not call or email prior to the notification date as we will still be reviewing applications and will not have an update for you until the scheduled notification date and time.
Please refer to this page for notification deadlines.
Again, please check the email you used in the application, including spam/junk folders if you still haven’t received anything.
SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY QUESTIONS
Do I have to be a US Citizen?
We have scholarship funds that do not require you to be a citizen. Please apply.
Do I have to live in Manatee County?
We have scholarship funds that also accept students from Sarasota County. Please apply if you live in Manatee or Sarasota County.
I have a felony. Can I still apply?
We do not ask about criminal history. If you feel you meet the criteria for MCF scholarships, please apply.
Does your vocational scholarships only cover attendance at USF, MTC, or SCF?
Most of our vocational scholarships only cover attendance at USF, MTC, or SCF by Manatee County residents.
Why didn’t I receive a scholarship?
A majority of the time, a student may not receive a scholarship simply because we don’t have enough scholarship dollars to fund each student who applies. That’s why we encourage all students to apply again the following year.
Other QUESTIONS
I want my scholarship to cover a specific semester.
Students can work with their colleges to determine which semester they would like their scholarship to go towards.
I graduate in late summer/early fall. Can I apply for the scholarship now and apply it for the summer semester?
Unfortunately, no. Due to our review times, we won’t be able to send out checks in time to cover summer tuition. Scholarships are for the upcoming school year, starting with the fall semester.

Our read on this award
2 figures we worked out, not the sponsor's. Free, and it takes an email address.
How these are worked out
- Our grade. From three facts the sponsor published. How few can apply: one high school or city 3 points, a county 2, the state 1, the whole country 0. How much it pays: $10,000 or more, or at least half of tuition, 3; $2,500 or more 2; $1,000 or more 1. Paid again in later years: 1. A is 4 points or more, B 3, C 2, D 0 or 1.
- How narrow the field is. Read from where the sponsor restricts it. An award open to one high school is competing against a graduating class.
- None of it is a chance of winning. We do not know how many people apply or how a sponsor chooses, so we do not publish a percentage. Anyone who does is guessing.
